October Reading List

I always had a book in my hand when I was a child, and life got too busy that I lost my love for reading. This month, I got back into it after looking at "Ugly Love" by Colleen Hoover and creating a "To Be Read" list. So, I bought the book on Amazon and started reading it the day after it arrived. Two days later, I had finished the book and ordered numerous others. I started another book just a few days later and concluded that in three days. Now, I want to share my opinions on the books I have read and hope to keep it going every month.

----------------------------

"Ugly Love" by Colleen Hoover is a young adult romance story, filled with lots of drama. I was so in love with the storyline of the two main characters- Tate and Miles. We follow Tate as she moves in with her older brother, while she finishes nursing school. His neighbor, Miles, lives across the hall and never brings up his past. As Miles begins to be protective of Tate, she notices her feelings for the mysterious guy across the hall. Miles did not want a relationship, but she did. They agreed to secretly see each other, keeping the huge secret away from her protective brother. Miles never told anyone about his past, and he didn't want Tate thinking of a future with him. We follow the story of the couple and their secret, with their huge ups and downs.

Overall, this book is gripping. It kept me on my toes on every page. The book flips back and forth from Tate's present to Mile's past, giving us a sense of what happened to him. We learn about each character in their own way until we finally learn about them as one. This book could not be put down, I had to keep turning a page every minute. Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars!

The next book is book one of three from a series by Scarlett St. Clair. "A Touch of Darkness" is a modern twist on the love story of Persephone and Hades. We follow Persephone into her mortal life as a "wanna-be journalist" and a college student. She wants her first article in her internship to be written about the bargains mortals make with the God of the Dead, Hades. She goes into the God's nightclub and sees his magic firsthand, as he traps her into a deal of bringing life to the Underworld- her only power as the Goddess of Spring, she kills plants instead of bringing them to life. Her mother, Demeter (the Goddess of Harvest), warns her of staying away from the Lord of the Underworld and threatens to take her mortal life away from her daughter. As Persephone becomes her own person, she learns to control her magic and learns the good side of Hades- resulting in her falling in love. Will she ever get out of this deal or will she learn to actually create life?

I purchased the second book before even finishing the first. This interesting twist on my favorite love story in Greek mythology had me wanting more. Scarlett St. Clair did a wonderful job in describing the Gods and Goddesses in their own ways, as each part of the city was represented for each. This adult romance is one series I will be sure to finish very soon. Rating 4.5 out of 5 Stars!

Check back in for books two and three of Scarlett St. Clair's modern twist, and many more books soon!
